Unwanted hair can be a major struggle for a lot of people, and traditional hair-removal methods such as shaving and the use of depilatory creams only offer short-term results. Additionally, other hair removal methods such as waxing are not only extremely painful and expensive but can also cause ingrown hairs and irritation. Fortunately, IPL hair removal in Rejuline Skin & Body Med Spa offers patients permanent results.
How does IPL Hair Removal work?
Broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin, targeting melanin. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair shaft or the bulb (root). The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melaninis located. As the light is absorbed, the bulb and most of the hair shaft are heated, destroying the hair-producing papilla. It is also claimed that heat conversion occurs directly in the darker capillaries that bring blood to the follicle.
At any one time, not all hair follicles are ‘active’, and only active hair follicles can be affected by the treatment. ‘Inactive’ hair follicles can be treated as they become ‘active’ over time.

For IPL Hair reduction treatments, an average of 8–10 treatments are required to remove most visible.
The area to be treated should be clean shaven and free of sunburn. Treatment sessions are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart.
If you have a tattoo in the region you would like treated, the skin around the tattoo will be treated, not the tattooed skin. The skin with the tattoo on it must be left alone as the IPL light may affect (brake up or lighten/fade) the ink and/or burn the skin.
IPL is widely used and there are no restrictions on its use in WA. IPL has been used for many years and is seen as a safe and effective method for removing unwanted hair and various skin rejuvenations.
IPL uses no UV light so there is not a cancer risk. As we use infrared light, green glasses must be worn to protect your eyes. Side effects can occur but are very uncommon. Problems can occur if the skin is tanned excessively within a couple of weeks of treatment, or the area has been exposed to sun excessively or tanning beds prior to treatment, or if the patient is using roaccutane or has epilepsy, or is pregnant.
IPL treatments will permanently reduce the total number of body hairs, they will not result in a permanent removal of all hair. Certain skin conditions, health irregularities, and medications can impact whether it is safe for a person to receive a light-based hair removal treatment. Photo-sensitizing medications or damage to the skin are contraindications.
